MONTHLY  RECAP

6/6/2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:40p.m.

The first guest was introduced as Tony Dininger from Fox Valley Technical College.  He would like to bring out a group of students to the property for 2 or 3 days at the end of July to help rid the property of invasive Buckthorn.

The idea was proposed to do a few soil samples of the spills for the walking trail that was created 2 years ago.

Also on hand were Pat Fisher and Don Baumgartner from the Feather Rehab.  They presented an owl that had been injured and rehabilitated.  They would like to come to the property to put bands on the pelicans to study their eating habits, what areas they have gone, where they are going and so forth.  They would like the okay from the club to continue to use the boat and go to the islands once a week for the next month.  There were no objections.

The secretary’s report was read and accepted as read.

The treasurers’ report gave amounts that were paid to Radtke for the island project and balances of the checking, and money markets.  It was accepted as read.

The subject of old business was the placing of the cane bed signs which Nile, Kelly, and Bob put into place.

Bruce Loberg reported that the islands were settling a lot.  Mostly the actual soil, but not the rocks that were put into place was what was settling.  He would like to continue to allow the islands to settle, fence them this year, and plant them next year.  The soil sample he sent off was returned and the soil is suitable for growing.

Tom tried again to get the club to be exempt from having to turn in 12 documented uses of the property every year to the town of Winneconne.  The town declined the idea and reminded him that two articles have to be published about the property being open to the public 365 days a year.  Art said he would contact the university and have them e-mail the club when a group uses the property to help ease the work of showing 12 groups have used the property.

New business was that of Lowell Robbins and his family and the assistance of Art to have the club buy his property.  The board reviewed the idea and is going to form a committee to ensure the process would be completed in a timely fashion if deemed as a feasible investment.  Pat Hickey volunteered to head the committee as Nile, Tom, Nicole, and Jim also volunteered to be on the committee.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:46p.m., first by Pat and seconded by Bruce.
